I'm currently reading The Hunger Games for school and I must say that I REALLY do NOT like the way it's written! I do not like Katniss all too much in the book, which is really sad since I really love her in the movies.

One example of the things that made me want to throw up while reading is the scenario when she's showing her skills to the Gamemakers, so she can get her score.

The scene where she shows off her skill I like, it's longer and she does some cool things. All in all that part is kinda like in the movie. It's her reaction afterwards I have a problem with.

In the movie, after showing her skills and shooting the apple she leaves and we cut to Haymitch coming in and being impressed and happy about how she acted and what she did. He praises her boldness and she's rather proud herself it seems. Effie isn't the least bit happy but hey! What's the worst they can do to Katniss eh? Trying to kill her in the game? Hah! Then the scene moves on to the scoring~

In the book however! After showing off her skills Katniss heads up to their quarters, shuts herself in her room and weeps her eyes out because now she's completely blown it! Now they're going to give her a lousy score, no one will sponsor her and she'll be utterly screwed! Sure. I can accept that reaction, no problem. It's a sober reaction actually, even if I DO prefer the movie version.
What made me want to throw up is when Effie fetches Katniss for dinner, Katniss sits down by the table and eats some fish soup and, I quote from page 122 of my book:

"Everyone is waiting at the table, even Cinna and Portia. I wish the stylists hadn't shown up, because for some reason, I don't like the idea of disappointing them. It's as if I've thrown away all the good work they did on the opening ceremonies without a thought. I avoid looking at anyone as I take tiny spoonfuls of fish soup. The saltiness reminds me of my tears."

I'm sorry what?

"The saltiness reminds me of my tears."

Come again??

"The saltiness reminds me of my tears."

WHAT THE EFFIN WHAT!???

THE SALTINESS REMINDS HER OF HER TEARS!?? HELLOOOOOOOOO TEENAGE ANGST!!!

WHAT-THE-FUCK!!!!????

No! Just NO! I can't! I CAN'T!!!  KATNISS! WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO YOU!!?????

I must say... I am so glad they did't let Katniss monologue in the movies! I am SO glad they've changed a lot of things in the movies!
I AM SO FREKKIN GLAD KATNISS ISN'T AN EMO TEENAGER IN THE FREKKIN MOVIES!!!

Yes! Some level of emoness would of course be expected! I mean, come on! She's heading off to a "contest" that will most probably kill her but... THE FREKKIN FISH SOUP REMINDS HER OF HER TEARS!!!

NOPE!
NO!
NEIN!
NEJ!

I'll see if I can force myself to keep reading this book or if I'll quit right here and spend my time on something more interesting >___>

For you who love the book, sorry. I can't say I do.
You're more than welcome to love it. I just can't handle it.

Jenni out!
